Material

All silicone realistic sex dolls are made from a special type of silicone, so called "platinum silicone". Some manufacturers list this as a competitive advantage, but that's simply marketing. As already noted, every doll is made from this type of silicone.

For reference: "platinum" just refers to the manufacturing process, in which platinum is used as a catalyst. This kind of silicone is skin safe, odourless and stable for years. That's precisely why the whole industry is built on it, and precisely why it's not an advantage, it's the standard.

That said, the material itself does vary in density. It's traditionally split into 2 categories: standard silicone and soft silicone. For a silicone realistic sex doll's body, you can choose one of two types.

Type 1 — Standard Silicone Body

The doll's entire body will be made from standard softness silicone. It essentially does its job of replicating the feel of contact with a human body. That said, it still isn't soft or gentle enough. Dolls made from this silicone are firm, and feel significantly worse than even TPE models.

Features

  • Not soft enough to realistically convey the feel of contact with a human body.
  • Less demanding to look after. It "forgives" many mistakes thanks to the material's higher density.
  • This is the type of silicone fitted as standard in dolls.

Who this body suits

We think a standard silicone doll is firm and not fully realistic. So if you're planning to use the doll for its direct functional purpose, you should definitely add a soft silicone body.

But if you want to use the doll as a mannequin or in some other way that doesn't involve contact with the model, you can choose standard silicone. It's easier to look after and simpler to maintain.

For any silicone body, it's extremely important to avoid silicone based lubricant. Silicone lubricant breaks down the structure of a silicone doll, literally dissolving the material. For functional use of the doll, it's absolutely essential to use only water-based lubricant.

Type 2 — Soft Silicone Body

The whole doll will be made from extra soft silicone. We consider this an essential upgrade for a silicone doll, since standard silicone doesn't manage to convey the feel of contact with a realistically soft body.

So we always recommend adding this upgrade when buying a silicone sex doll.

Features

  • A doll with this upgrade is more prone to damage: scratches, dents and stretching. So it needs more care during handling.
  • For example, when posing the doll, we recommend placing a soft cushioning layer between the doll and whatever it's resting on (when the doll is in a "doggy style" position, it should rest on soft padding, such as a folded blanket. With soft silicone, this padding should be even thicker).

It's important to follow the care instructions especially closely, since this type of material is more prone to damage. But the result is worth it, and with proper care you'll get the fullest experience from your doll.

What doesn't change

Visually, a doll made from standard and soft silicone looks the same. The detailing, skin texture and paintwork don't depend on the type of silicone.

For any silicone body, it's extremely important to avoid silicone based lubricant. Silicone lubricant breaks down the structure of a silicone doll, literally dissolving the material. For functional use of the doll, it's absolutely essential to use only water-based lubricant.

Additional types

Some brands also offer even softer silicone types. This material has all the properties of soft silicone taken further: it will be even softer, and even more prone to damage.
