Tongue
A tongue can be added for a Soft Head. Unlike ROS, a Soft Head only has a masturbator style channel. To make it a bit more realistic, you can add a tongue.
How it works
This upgrade adds a movable tongue to the doll's mouth. The tongue is made from the same material as the rest of the doll's head. The tongue is movable, and can press against the upper palate. With some brands you can even pull it out slightly (as if the doll is sticking her tongue out).
Note that, depending on the brand, the tongue can be made in two ways.
Type 1 — Fixed Tongue
This tongue is fitted and secured inside the doll's mouth. In other words, it forms a single, unified construction with the doll's oral opening.
This is the preferred tongue option, and the most suitable for use. It's securely fixed, doesn't shift during functional use, and needs no separate care: it's washed together with the oral channel.
Type 2 — Removable Tongue
This type of tongue can be pulled out of the doll's mouth. It sits loosely, and during use it can fall out or get pushed further into the doll's mouth.
The only practical advantage of this option: the tongue can be taken out if it's in the way, and replaced if it wears out. But in our view, these advantages don't outweigh the unreliable fit.
If a brand offers both types, choose the fixed tongue. If only the removable type is available, weigh up how important the tongue actually is to you: an element flopping around in the mouth can hurt the experience more than it improves it.
The tongue is specifically an upgrade for a Soft Head. On a ROS head, a full tongue is already part of the anatomically detailed mouth, so there's no need to add it separately. On a hard head the mouth doesn't open, so the tongue isn't available at all in that case.
Is it worth adding
If you've chosen a soft head and plan to use the oral opening, the tongue is an inexpensive way to make it noticeably more realistic. But to be honest, even with a tongue, a Soft Head won't come close to the ROS experience. So if oral contact matters to you, the right solution isn't a soft head with a tongue, it's a ROS head. We cover this in more detail in the Head Type, ROS section.
