Realistic Body Painting

As soon as a doll is made, she's just a plain, uniform "blank" with skin that has no gradient or detail. To give her the look of human skin, she's painted over the course of several days. The painting involves applying a large number of layers, one after another. The more layers applied, the better the final result.

The Realistic Body Painting upgrade adds a further set of layers on top of the standard ones. Thanks to this, the doll looks even more detailed.

What exactly the upgrade gives you

The extra layers work on the details that make skin look "alive": a natural gradient of tones, slight redness on the knees, elbows, hands and feet, and detailing of creases and texture. The difference is especially noticeable in daylight and in close up photographs: a doll with standard paintwork looks flat and "plasticky", while one with Realistic Body Painting looks dimensional and natural.

Right now, with most brands, this upgrade has become either free, or a regular feature of promotions.

After painting, factories apply a fixing coat, which locks the paint layers onto the doll's body. However, like any paintwork, it can wear away over time, especially through improper care or handling. So it's important to handle your doll carefully and follow the care instructions.

Paintwork wears away over time

Since these are layers of different paints and pigments, they can wear away over time. Areas of intense friction fade first (palms, the intimate area, breasts, elbows and knees). This isn't a manufacturing defect, it's a natural part of the doll's "life", one you should be prepared for. That said, this process can be slowed considerably by following a few simple rules.

Rules that will preserve the paintwork

  • Wash the doll gently, without aggressive rubbing. Blot rather than wipe.
  • Don't use alcohol based products or harsh chemicals. Only mild soap and cool water.
  • Dress the doll in smooth clothing that won't wear away the material. Always wash new clothing before its first wear.
